Amazon Games are developing and publishing a new massively multiplayer online (MMO) game based on The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. The deal is the first major partnership to come to light since Embracer Group bought the rights to the Tolkien properties with its acquisition of Middle-earth Enterprises. Middle-earth Enterprises is now part of Embracer’s Freemode division. The upcoming game will be an open-world MMO adventure in a persistent world set in Middle-earth, featuring the beloved stories of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings literary trilogy.

Per 4A Games, the developers behind the Metro series, they have already started work on the next Metro game. "Using everything we’ve learned from the last 15 years, we’ve set our sights even higher – the next title is being built for Gen 9 consoles and PC, with a complete overhaul of our engine and renderer to take advantage of the new power, storage, and hardware supported ray tracing afforded by the new consoles." "We’re committed to delivering a great story driven single player experience; this is what the Metro series is founded on. As a studio, we want to constantly push ourselves to create bigger and better games, but we also listen to what the fans are saying, and we know what’s important to you. We take our responsibility to the franchise seriously, and we think you’ll be excited about our plans for the next chapter." 4A also has elaborated that they intend to explore multiplayer efforts with future Metro games, but are unsure if the next Metro game will launch with a multiplayer experience, or if these efforts will instead manifest as an independent entry in the future.
