Dangerous Creatures allows the user to investigate animals according to several categories: Atlas (animals by country), Weapons (animals that had teeth, venom, or claws), Guides (related animals), Habitats (animals from a given environment), and Index (an alphabetical list of all animals covered). Animal articles have pictures, descriptions, and video clips. In addition a user can be tested with quizzes on the animals.

These activities include a monster assembly lab, monster movies in the screening room, cooking a concoction in the kitchen, composing an organ tune, and other traditional puzzle games adapted to the computer. In any pre-2008 version of Microsoft Encarta, press ctrl z to start MindMaze. MindMaze is a built-in quiz shipped with pre-2008 versions of Microsoft Encarta. Players advance through a cursed castle maze, answering questions to move from room to room. The player is transported back in time to break the curse on King Miser the First's castle. The castle consists of several floors, each floor holding 100 rooms in a 10x10 grid. To unlock a door between rooms, the player must correctly answer a multiple-choice, timed trivia questions.
