The game is a side-on scrolling shoot-em-up. The story revolves around Ikuro, whose wife Yuri has been poisoned by Hexaae, an evil lord of black magic. Ikuro uses magic to transform into a deadly bee and vows to find an antidote for Yuri and wreak revenge on Hexaae.

This game is about a cute pink alien called Chewy, who along with his partner Clint goes on a mission to break into the Borkian high security zone - F5. Their mission: to steal the powerful "Red Glum" so that the Borks can't use it for their evil purposes. Chewy's partner Clint manages to steal the glum and escapes with it from the pursuing Borkian starships, but his spaceship gets caught in a wormhole during the chase and crashes on a planet called Earth. That's were the adventure begins with our hero - Chewy in the lead.

The protagonists can jump, crawl, kick, beat, slide, and swim. They are even able to hold their breath when under water. If you are playing the game solely, "Joe" is your character of choice. A friend can take on Nat's part at the same PC. The game's purpose is to get rid of "Professor X", who is the bad guy. The players can attack opponents using several weapons, including molotovs, chainsaws and nunchakus. Yo! Joe! Beat the Ghosts doesn't offer save games. The copy protection requires the original disk at every start-up.
