The environment features a shopping mall level, an underwater level, and other worlds to explore. The game is also centered around collecting gems and pearls to fend off opponents. Enemies in the game include the usual sharks found in underwater levels in addition to jellyfish. Moving cubes of sugar must also be defeated in the game. The bonus rounds of the game are essentially a Concentration-type game where matching identical cards lead to extra points for the player.
Barbie is a video game developed by Imagineering Inc based after the famous Barbie doll, created by Mattel Inc. Help Barbie become a great fashion model! This is an arcade game with many different activities to participate in. In each level, Barbie starts by going left to right with forced scrolling. She has a default speed and can speed up as well. She must avoid moving obstacles by moving up and down and controlling her speed. If she hits one, she loses a chance and it's game over if she runs out of chances. She must pick up items which grant point bonuses and extra chances. There is also a camera item to pick up which brings you to a magazine cover shoot. You are shown a cover with barbie wearing an outfit which is themed to the level. You must then go to her dressing room and dress her in a matching outfit. You are also given separate control of the colors of three different components and must match these. You are awarded points for each correct match. When you reach the right side of the level, you are given a runway practice. This consists of four positions on the runway floor labeled to tell you which button you must press at each one. Barbie then goes back through the level right-to-left. On the return trip, there is a handbag to pick up. This brings you to another magazine cover. You then go to a makeup mirror where you must match Barbie's hairstyle, earrings, eyeshadow and lip and nail color to the cover. Again, you are awarded points for each item which you get correct. When you reach the left side of the level, you must then do Barbie's runway walk that you were given earlier. You are awarded points for each station at which you perform the correct move. Barbie then continues to the next level. There are a total of four: Barbie driving down the street, skating on the beach, walking through a ski resort and walking through the park.
Detective Barbie 2 is primarily an adventure game where Barbie explores the inn and surrounding areas, such as the greenhouse and the lighthouse. Further, the inn was constructed by an eccentric inventor who built all kinds of secret passages and other surprises into the location. Find and use items, leverage your high-tech gadgets, interview the people who work at the inn, and solve the mystery.

In "Barbie: Pet Rescue" for Game Boy Color, Barbie must rescue stray animals after a thunderstorm hits Green Arbor Park. She uses vehicles to reach the animals, and some require mini-games to be completed before they can be rescued. Once the animals are back at the Rescue Center, Barbie must increase their health and happiness levels using different treatments. After the animals are healthy and happy, she returns them to their owners, sometimes by completing a final mini-game to match the animal with its parent. Each successful rescue earns Barbie a certificate, and progress is saved through passwords.

Barbie gets her very own horse ranch. Designed for the five to nine year old age range, Barbie Adventure: Riding Club lets players care for and ride their own horse. The horse riding is European (aka Equestrian) style as opposed to western, although the game doesn't force the player to take that into account when they're riding. The horse is controlled with simplistic controls to make it jump, steer, and adjust speed. After choosing a horse for Barbie, she can spend some time feeding and grooming it before saddling up and going for a ride. Riding the trails is the bulk of the gameplay. The player can race their horse against several of Barbie's friends. There are also some mini-games that the player comes across while riding. The mini-games involve activities such as arranging flowers in their proper sequence, sorting apples, and frog-hopping.
