Far Cry 2 is an open-world first-person shooter set in an unnamed African country. Players take the role of a mercenary who roams a large environment of desert, savannah, and jungle, completing missions for rival factions and allied characters known as Buddies. Missions can be approached through direct assault or stealth, and the game emphasizes systemic, reactive elements such as spreading fire, degrading scavenged weapons, and enemies that respond to the player's tactics. Survival mechanics feature heavily, including recurring bouts of malaria that must be treated with medicine and companions who can be lost permanently if not helped in time. A competitive multiplayer mode and a level editor are also included.

Bent on Humankind's extermination, a powerful fellowship of alien races known as the Covenant is wiping out Earth's fledgling interstellar empire. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the sequel to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and a prequel to the original Metal Gear. The game has a complex story with long cut-scene sequences, but there are fewer and they are shorter compared to earlier Metal Gear Solid titles. Most of the gameplay mechanics introduced in Ground Zeroes are carried over: it is still an action game and stealth oriented but replaces the linear corridor design from most earlier titles with large open world environments that offer the player unrestricted freedom for the approach. The world has now a real-time day and night cycle and various weather effects that influence enemy behaviour, visibility and sound. Sabotaging or destroying certain structures can also influence other parts of the map.

Mafia II is a third-person action-adventure game set in the fictional American city of Empire Bay between 1945 and 1951. Players control Vito Scaletta through a story-driven campaign involving organized crime, navigating an open world on foot or by vehicle. Gameplay combines shooting, driving, and limited melee combat, with a wanted system that escalates law enforcement response based on criminal activity. The game features era-appropriate vehicles, licensed period music across multiple radio stations, and a cover-based combat system.
