Idol Time PriPara revolves the story of Yui who lives in a town called Paparajuku. Her ultimate dream is to become an idol. However, such dream also made her realize that it is quite impossible for her to achieve. Then suddenly, the PriPara idol theme park will open in her town. And together with this, Yui’s idol, Laala, will also be there. This made Yui’s dream of becoming an idol even bigger. Unfortunately, due to some changes to the concepts and some system error, Laala is longer able to go to PriPara.
The story begins two years after Kataoka Yue joined the talent production company “Pythagoras Productions”. She’s worked her way up and now helps manage two of the company’s most popular groups – Marginal#4 & Lagrange Point. One day, Yue and the group members are all called into the company president’s office and introduced to a new group called “Unicorn Jr.” who will have their début at this year’s “Universe Fes”. Once the introductions are over with and everyone leaves the office, the president holds Yue back and tells her that she will be in charge of organizing a huge event called “Pythagoras ✰ All Star Fes” featuring all three groups. As she only has 6 months to prepare, the president tells her that she can only be in charge of one group at the moment and asks her to choose between the three. Which will she choose?

As the player, you play various songs on different difficulties, gather cards by gacha/scouting, and level the boys up in ranks. By unlocking more and more of each card, they'll become more powerful, with some having side stories, backgrounds, outfits (2DLive and/or 3D), special performances, and "blooming" the card (awakened).

Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Dolce Vita, the next game in the visual novel series, was announced in 2016. Originally, it was meant to be released on the PS Vita, but Broccoli announced in 2019 that development for the Vita had been cancelled and that it would continue to be developed for the Nintendo Switch. Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Dolce Vita will be a completely new work, and will feature a new story about the 11 idols at Shining Agency.
