Sonic Before the Sequel (abbreviated Sonic BTS) is a fan game created by LakeFeperd that is meant to explain the events that may have taken place between Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. In it, the player plays as Sonic and Tails, alternating between the duo through numerous zones as Sonic goes to stop Dr. Eggman from launching the Death Egg, with Tails trying to keep up and eventually meet and team up with Sonic. An update was released during SAGE 2012, adding improved graphics, an original soundtrack made by Falk, KgZ, Andy Tunstall & Funk Fiction, and a bonus boss if you reach the good ending. A sequel, Sonic After the Sequel, and an interequel, Sonic Before the Sequel Aftermath (which has now formed into another fangame by LakeFeperd called Sonic Chrono Adventure), were released as well.
Sonic: After the Sequel (abbreviated Sonic ATS), is a fan game created by LakeFeperd that is meant to explain the events that may have taken place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles. In it, the player plays as Sonic and Tails, racing through numerous zones as Sonic and Tails go out to stop Dr. Eggman from crashing the Death Egg into (and attacking), the new, mysterious island known as Angel Island. It is the sequel to Sonic Before the Sequel.
Sonic P-06 is a platform game developed by Argentinian programmer "ChaosX" for Windows. It is an unofficial remake of the 2006 video game Sonic the Hedgehog, originally developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The remake features many improvements over the original source material, such as improved controls, faster load times, enhanced visuals, various bug fixes, restored dialog, and brand new mid-level cutscenes. P-06 has a huge cult following and an active speedrunning community. As of August 2023, nine demos have been released, containing all main acts from Sonic's, Shadow's, and Silver's campaigns. The boss fights, hub worlds, town missions, and final story from the original game are not yet playable in P-06.
Sonic 2 HD is an unofficial overhaul of SEGA’s franchise classic for the modern world. It is made for fans, by fans, with no financial gain whatsoever. From the very beginning of the project, Sonic 2 HD has focused on maintaining the feel that has made Sonic the Hedgehog 2 a classic while using new tools to reimagine the original as it could have been were it made today. The game’s art direction reflects this, but Sonic 2 HD has also given equal attention to unseen essential elements in the physics and audio. The result of this is an unprecedented re-interpretation in high definition graphics, music and gameplay of Sonic 2, which continues to set quality standards to this day. 2D artwork is the foundation of Sonic’s retro roots. With this in mind, the goal was to produce a similar shading style to the Japanese original concept artwork and set it in motion with hand-drawn animations. Now, 25 years after Sonic 2’s release, Sonic 2 HD can faithfully represent the original’s cast of characters and environments in a world where technology no longer imposes artistic limitations.
