Virtua Tennis 4 is an action-oriented tennis game which focuses on fast matches instead of being a realistic simulation. The heart of the game is the career mode in which the player creates their own avatar. The goal is simple: reaching the top within four seasons. Here the player has various possibilities to improve their tennis player, e.g. by playing training sessions (arcade minigames like picking up eggs) to improve the statistics, buying new clothes with prize money or playing matches. The menu for this mode is made up like a board game. Other playing modes are single matches, party mode (playing the mentioned mini games) or arcade (winning as many matches in a row as possible). Here players can choose between 19 licensed athletes (plus at release already retired athletes in the PlayStation 3 version). The standard controls for returning the ball consist of choosing the desired move, e.g. spin and basic direction. When a special bar is filled up, players can unleash an especially powerful shot.

Virtua Tennis 2009 features several international tennis stars like Roger Federer, Boris Becker or Maria Sharapova against which the player needs to compete against or play with in the heart of the game: The World Tour. The player creates his own character from scratch and plays to reach the number one rank on the world ranking list.

In this officially licensed tennis game from Namco, you can play in all four major tournaments of the tennis season: The Australian Open, Wimbeldon, the French Open and the US Open, with the best players in the world including Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Monica Seles and more from the top 8 of both the ATP and WTA tournaments. The main feature of the game is the World Cup tournament itself, where the player may use either the actual groups used in the finals, or groups composed of a random selection of the included teams. Each match takes place in a recreation of the venue it was played in the actual tournament. As in the real tournament, group games do not go to extra time or a penalty shootout but knockout matches do.

The ball comes off the grass surface fast and low, reflecting the surface's reputation for providing the most exciting tennis. It's viewed in the typical third person perspective, although with quite a distinct 3D effect and with shadows. You can play standard 1 or 2 player matches, or play the full tournament from the quarter-final stages onwards. You can play standard shots as well as lobs and drop shots, and full service rules are featured. You can select your character and build up their skills as the game progresses.

The Playstation 2 sequel to Smash Court Tennis offers player a deeper tennis simulation experience, expanding on existing features, aswell as adding new modes.

A game endorsed by the American player who stunned the tennis world in the early 90s with his "Image is everything" looks, sporting long hair, earrings and colorful shirts, Andre Agassi Tennis includes eight players (male and female and as as expected, only Agassi is a real player) rated according to movement speed and both accuracy and strength on serve, backhand and forehand. Gameplay features all the usual moves: smashes, passing shots, volleys and all kinds of backhand and forehand plays, but unlike other games, precise positioning and timing are crucial to avoid hitting the ball outside the court, swinging the racket into thin air or more embarrassing, let the ball hit you on the head. Three courts are available: Grass, Clay and Indoor (Sega versions add a fourth, Hard), but the differences between them are minimal. Game modes change according to the version, with the 16-bit versions including a "Skins" game, where each point is worth a sum of money based on the number of times the ball was hit.

Virtua Tennis is a tennis game in which it is possible to control one of eight licensed players and uncover the secret stars. As well as the traditional arcade mode, you can play in the exhibition mode, with four-player action via doubles play. Once you've mastered those modes, take on the world in the world circuit mode, with unique training games, different challenges and shops to buy clothing, equipment, stages and playing partners.
