You are Rocket Roger and on your way home to Earth, your ship has run out of fuel and you are forced to land on a mysterious planet. As you explore the planet you realize that scattered over the planet are fuel crystals and 99 are needed to refuel your ship. Problem is the locals aren't friendly and will try to kill you as you explore the surface and underground caverns. Some can be shot with your laser but others must be avoided and if you touch one then you lose one of five lives. Turrets also need to be avoided as well as their bullets and under the planets surface are electric gates and lasers to avoid touching. As well as your gun you have a jet-pack strapped to your back and this can help you clear gaps and reach higher parts of the planet. As you fly your fuel for the jet-pack will decrease but you can collect extra to keep it topped up. Rocket Roger is a platform game where a small part of the planet is shown and the screen scrolls in all directions when you move. The keyboard is used to control your hero and as well as the main playing area you can also see your score, jet-pack fuel, best score, crystals collected, lives and which zone you are in.

LOOKING a little like the old favourite Spy Hunter -though with only a trace of the playability - and a lot like an ancient hand-held game called Champion Racer, this dodge-'em-and-shoot-'em is very colourful, but a little slow. You must qualify as number one driver in the 007 spy school's driving test with a difference. You are equipped with a car possessing the ability to fly over short distances and fitted with firepower. You can play alone or in a genuine two-player mode. The packaging announces that the course is tough and one which you can only survive if you are brave and resourceful - and how true this is. Your car is seen from above and moves along a roadway which scrolls from top to bottom of the screen. As you barrel down the blacktop the opposition moves in for the kill mounted on bikes or piloting anything from little yellow taxi cabs to Sherman tanks. Initially you have about a dozen bullets and it appears that these are only effective at short range. Quite unsportingly. some of your opponents seem to be immune to your attack and keep on coming regardless of what you throw at them. Your fuel level steadily goes down, all the more so when you take off to avoid enemy vehides. Not only that, but with bullets in limited supply you need to rearm and refuel at regular intervals. Indicators showing fuel level, bullets remaining, jumps left and damage are at the bottom of the screen. At several places you must make a choice of directions, one of which will usually result in a dead end. Experience teaches you to make the correct decision ,and often you can jump over to the right track if you're quick. One annoying feature is that everything slows down drastically when a lot is happening. That apart, and considering the price. Boy Racer isn't at all bad, with good graphics and nice explosions.

Bat Attack is a Galaxian clone, in which you control a ship that must constantly move left and right firing at a series of bats that swoop down with your laser, while avoiding their bullets. The bats swoop down until they fly off the bottom of the screen and re-appear in the group. One of your lives gets lost when one of these bats come in contact with the ship. Once you have wiped the bats out, you must then avoid the spinning discs that come down the screen. When you have avoided enough discs, the next level begins.

The game is divided into a series of single-screen levels. The goal of the player on each screen is manipulate Blagger, a burglar, to collect the scattered keys and then reach the safe. The keys must be collected and the safe opened in a set amount of time. Blagger can walk either left or right, or jump left or right. The jumping action is in a fixed pattern and cannot be altered once initiated. Gameplay reduces to learning the best order in which to collect the keys, and correct timing of movements and jumping. Hazards Not all platforms are solid, some decay once Blagger has walked on them. Other platforms serve to move Blagger in a particular direction. Blagger will die if he touches cacti, one of the moving enemy obstacles of the level or if he falls a certain distance. The moving enemies vary from level to level, and include cars, aliens, mad hatters, and giant mouths. The movement of the enemies is of a fixed pattern, repeatedly travelling from one point to another and back again. The BBC and Electron versions feature floating 'RG's as hazards (R.G. being the initials of the programmer of those versions, R.S. Goodley).
