Gridrunner Revolution is a game which has evolved over 27 years. The original Gridrunner games were created for the Commodore 64 and Vic-20 back in 1982. The company that made the games, Llamasoft, are now one of the longest established game developers in existence and over the intervening years have done pioneering work in the field of music visualization as well as developing genre-defining games such as Tempest 2000 and the extraordinary Space Giraffe. Gridrunner Revolution takes some core ideas from those old Commodore games and extrapolates them forward to create a game that is both modern and exceptionally beautiful. The gameplay goes way beyond mere shooting and leads players to score highly by engaging with the game's mechanic to produce aesthetically pleasing abstract graphics “performances” as they play. Several game modes are included, along with simulations of the original Vic and C64 games so that players can see for themselves the game's history and how it has evolved in the 21st century.

The player controls a small jetplane and has the task of killing giant yellow camels before they reach the home base. Doing so requires several dozens of shots. The camels retaliate by shooting fireballs from their mouth. Each camel required several shots to destroy; if a camel reached the base, the game was over. Once all camels on a level had been killed, the player had to survive a "hyperspace" sequence which required avoiding high-speed missiles. Upon successful completion, the next level presented a new wave of camels, with slightly harder gameplay.

A variety of the game Blitz, an earlier VIC-2 game which itself was an clone of Atari's arcade game Canyon Bomber. Gameplay has the player drop bombs over a city to clear an area that you can land. Originally released as 'Bomb Buenos Aires', the game's theme was developed early in Jeff Minter's career, "intended as a tongue in cheek" response to the then ongoing Falkland Island, where buildings with small Argentinian flag's and the "Rule Britannia" play if the plane landed successfully. Written complaints and negative press would lead to the game quickly reissued and amended into "Bomber" or "City Bomb" as it's know today. Bomber was one of the earliest games developed by Minter under Llamasoft.
