Alliance of the Golden Witch is the fourth arc in Umineko no Naku Koro ni and the final arc of the original Umineko no Naku Koro ni visual novel. It introduces the character of Ange Ushiromiya and follows her quest to discover the truth of the Rokkenjima massacre. The game was bundled with the first three episodes and was the first game to hold the full Umineko no Naku Koro ni / When They Cry 3 set of games.

This story is about a young boy named Tohno Shiki who, after experiencing a traumatic accident, wakes up in the hospital with the ability to see lines and cracks in every surface and being. These lines, when traced with any sharp or blunt edge, will be permanently cut. As he is forced to see these lines everywhere, Shiki is distraught until he meets a mage girl who gives him glasses that allow him to live a normal life. Years later, after living in a relative's home, the death of his father has him summoned back to the mansion he left years ago. There he must learn to live with his younger sister and two maid girls. One day Shiki's life takes a turn for the worst when, on the way to school, he meets a blonde woman and he's overcome with the urge to kill her.

This is a story of disease and suffering; of medication and adverse effects; of thoracotomy scars and cellular poisons; of the living who cannot help but to die and of the dying who cannot help but to live; of a resting place other than "on 7F" or "at home".

Hinamizawa Teiryuujo was the prototype of what would later become Higurashi When They Cry, initially proposed as a stage play written by Ryukishi07, but it was rejected by the theater company and later repurposed for the game.

Turn of the Golden Witch is the second arc in Umineko no Naku Koro ni. The arc follows Battler Ushiromiya and Beatrice as they battle over the existence of magic. This is the first arc wherein the "alternate existence" versions of characters from Rokkenjima make an appearance. The story focuses heavily on Rosa Ushiromiya and Shannon.

Requiem of the Golden Witch is the seventh arc in Umineko no Naku Koro ni and the third arc of Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru. The story follows Willard H. Wright and Lion Ushiromiya as they attempt to solve a new game designed by Bernkastel. The story is primarily focused on the history and parentage of Sayo Yasuda.
