Alone in the Dark
Parent game
Alone in the Dark is one of the first survival horror games and the first to utilize 3D models superimposed on pre-rendered backgrounds, which would become a key inspiration for upcoming horror games at the time, like the Resident Evil franchise. The player can use various weapons, such as pistol, rifle, swords and knives, though it is possible to kill most enemies with melee attacks. Some opponents can be beaten by solving a particular puzzle, while a significant number of opponents cannot be killed at all or only with certain weapons.

We invite you to join us on a journey into madness, where each encounter could be your last. With each step you take closer to unravelling Derceto's mystery, the eyes that watch from the darkness grow hungrier. Every bullet means the difference between survival and an unthinkable end. The next door you unlock could lead to a nightmarish realm offering nothing but slashing claws, grasping tentacles, and frayed sanity. Alone in the Dark is a reboot of the original game and the fifth installment of the series. It features a new storyline and characters while still maintaining the core elements of the survival horror genre. The game is set out through DVD-style episodes where the player can choose to start from the beginning or choose to skip to a section if they get stuck. There is also a strong emphasis on exploration, atmosphere and tension with players needing to use stealth and strategy to avoid detection by enemies.
The PS2 and Wii version of Alone in the Dark is a completely different game from the Xbox 360 and PC version. Level structure, mechanics of gameplay and looks of the characters sometimes differ strongly as these versions contain concept elements that were left out of the other game.
