The player fights as either Asterix the Gaul or his best friend, Obelix, as they take on the 'might' of the oppressive Roman Empire. Asterix includes a variety of humorous fighting moves, which are demonstrated in the game's attract mode. The artwork and feel of Asterix remains true to its French source material, and the game's many humorous touches (such as the way defeated Legionnaires crawl away) will be instantly familiar to fans of the comic-book and cartoon series. Bonus levels - such as the chariot race that awaits at the end of the first level - introduce different gameplay elements to provide a break from the fighting.

The game's demo, shown at Exilecon 2019, has a gameplay loop based on the endgame map system used in Path of Exile with smaller maps for quick gameplay sessions. The UI was redone with the health and mana orbs being combined in one corner, 4 skills shown in one corner with 4 more available from a touch and swipe menu. Skills in the game use the planned 4.0 system with a separate menu screen for active gems that can have up to 4 gem sockets. Inventory was redesigned with equipment, currency items and maps split to different inventory menus automatically when picked up and items can be picked up anywhere on screen.
