Duke Nukem 3D is a first-person shooter in which players move through levels from the protagonist's viewpoint, fighting aliens and mutated foes with a varied arsenal. Its environments are highly interactive and destructible, and levels are designed in a non-linear way, letting players use air ducts, back routes, and hidden areas to explore or avoid enemies. Turrican is a 1990 video game programmed and designed by Manfred Trenz. It was first developed for the Commodore 64 by Rainbow Arts, but was ported to other systems later. In addition to concept design and character creation, Trenz personally programmed Turrican on the Commodore 64. A sequel, Turrican II, followed 1991 for the Commodore 64 and other platforms.

The evil Terracom corporation has struck a deal with alien forces to eradicate populated areas on key planets. This initiative has been named Project Overkill. Take No Prisoners is a 1997 game set in a post-apocalyptic Texas; with the main character, Slade, given the mission to retrieve an object from the center of a small town. Slade, having to battle past the cities violent inhabitants, manages to retrive the object and escape the city alive.

Aiming and moving in cover and blind-fire modes is tricky, though. To gain the 3-D effect, some detail gets sacrificed. Usually this is no problem, but occasionally you'll have a tough time recognizing an object. You move from area to area to engage a new group of enemies. You'll conveniently find crates for cover and barrels to help you pull off big explosions. Locking the enemy in your crosshairs, signified by your crosshairs turning red, doesn't guarantee a direct hit? The accuracy depends on the weapon of choice. A shotgun will normally provide a kill on the first shot. If you have an automatic rifle, your shots are relatively inaccurate even if your aim is true.

Super Contra is a Run and Gun-style action game produced by Konami, originally released as a coin-operated arcade game in 1988. It is the sequel to the original Contra and the second game in the Contra series released for the arcades. Like in the original game, the game centers on soldiers Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, who are once again assigned to protect the Earth from an army of alien invaders. The game features standard side-scrolling stages, as well as all new overhead stages in lieu of the original game's "3D" stages.
