Gears of War is a third-person shooter built around a cover system, where players duck behind obstacles and use tactical fire to advance on enemies. The signature weapon is an assault rifle fitted with a chainsaw bayonet, and a timed reload mechanic can grant a brief damage bonus or jam the gun if mistimed. The five-act campaign can be played solo or in two-player co-op, and a competitive multiplayer mode supports up to eight players split between the two factions. Gears of War 2 is a third-person shooter built around tactical use of cover. Players fight through a campaign as a soldier of the Coalition of Ordered Governments, carrying a limited loadout of weapons and using cover, melee attacks, and the series' chainsaw bayonet against enemy forces. It supports cooperative campaign play and a range of competitive multiplayer modes, and introduces Horde mode, in which up to five players survive escalating waves of enemies together.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is a first-person shooter set in a near-future scenario where the United States has been devastated by an orbital weapons strike.
