Military Madness (released as Nectaris in Japan) is a futuristic turn-based strategy war game. The year is 2089 and the setting is Earth’s moon, which yields many important resources. While the governments of Earth bicker over their staked claims on the moon, the evil Axis Empire launches a lunar military campaign and takes over the moon, using its factories to produce advanced weaponry, the most devastating of which is the SAM (Supreme Atomic Missile). As commander of the Allied forces, it is the player’s responsibility to lead what’s left of the Allied armies in a desperate offensive against the Axis Empire on the lunar surface before they can use the SAM to destroy Earth.

This Gameboy port of Nectaris (AKA Military Madness in North America) was only released in Japan. It is a a turn-based strategy war game with a Science Fiction theme, set on earth's moon. The game is played on a hex-grid. This installment of the franchise includes a map editor which allows players to create game maps and even transfer those maps to another player wirelessly through an infrared modem called the KISS-Link. Another unique feature of this game is the ability to download maps off of the internet using a PC and transfer them to the cartridge through the KISS-Link.

This version of Nectaris is an updated and expanded version of the original game with a new background story, an entirely different graphical style and lots of new content. It includes all maps (the setting of which has been changed from the Earth's moon to Triton) and units from the original game. Two new sets of maps (the Romulous and Pacifica campaigns) have been added for a total of 96 levels. There are also many new units, more than doubling the number of the original. The non-lunar settings of the new campaigns allow for naval units for the first time (including submarines and ship-based aircraft), as well as such units as helicopters, jump-jet infantry and paratroopers.

Neo Nectaris is an updated version of Nectaris. The core features are the same: it's a turn-based strategy game with a hexagonal grid that takes place in the future. The story was also mostly recycled, but there are a few changes: - 48 new maps, - new and updated units, - slightly improved graphics, - orchestrated red book audio, - five special 2-player maps. - The game includes the original Nectaris on the disc.
