Ace Combat: Northern Wings brings Ace Combat to the retro top-down shooter genre. Players take control of Grendel 1, a pilot serving the secretive Kingdom of Nordennavic. The country officially maintains neutrality throughout the events of past Ace Combat games, but sends Grendel 1 to covertly influence their outcomes. Developed on Java, Northern Wings is the second Ace Combat game playable on mobile devices after Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion.
The original Japanese version of Twin Cobra, a 1987 Shooting Game developed by TOAPLAN. Kyukyoku Tiger has a swathe of differences to it's overseas counterpart, most notably reverting the player to a previous checkpoint on death rather than respawning them, and being one-player only. There are also more minor changes in factors such as the amount of shots the player can have on screen at once. The game was a success for Toaplan in arcades, reportedly reaching 10 Million worldwide players, and a number of console ports were made in the 90s. A sequel, Kyukyoku Tiger II/Twin Cobra II, followed in 1995, though this was developed by Takumi Corporation following TOAPLAN's bankruptcy in 1994.
You are a Tank Commander and your mission is to drive around the top view landscape in various directions and destroy all the enemies fuel dumps. As you drive your tank you must avoid the other enemy tanks as well as a jet-fighter that appears occasionally and bombs you. The terrain of the landscape consists of rivers, hills and trees with the rivers having to be crossed by bridges and the hills drove round. The trees can be fired on to remove or just run over them, and a road can be driven on but this attracts the enemy. Your ammo has to be watched as you only have a limited supply and if you are hit by the enemy then you lose one of four lives. Two players can play and each player takes it in turns to play when the other player is killed.
