Short Circuit

In this Commodore 64 adaptation of the movie of the same name, you take the role of robot Number 5. Having recently become self-aware, Number 5 has to escape from the laboratory. To do so, he has to find several hardware and software upgrades that give him new abilities, like jumping and firing a laser gun. He also has to evade capture by security personnel and other robots. Once he has escaped from the lab, he has to survive on the outside by evading wild animals and his human and robot pursuers. The game combines action and adventure elements. In the lab, you can search for and pick up items and use them to find your way to the exit. Once outside, you have to jump and shoot to survive.

The CPC version of Short Circuit is similar to the ZX Spectrum version. However the adventure portion of the game features a smaller map. The rooms, objects, and puzzles have also been altered.

The ZX Spectrum version of "Short Circuit" is split into two parts, which differ from the Commodore 64 game, and can each be played independently. The first is viewed in third-person 3D, as our hero moves from room to room through various doors. Objects can be picked up to allow him to jump and fire. You can use objects in your possession, take them by searching desks, or link to some of the available computers to use their functionality. In the second stage, armed with jumping and shooting abilities, Number 5 must simply escape as quickly as he can. Guards and Other robots are giving chase, and should be shot. Your robot becomes increasingly depressed when he kills wildlife, and this can eventually cost you a life, so make sure you jump or duck around them.

The Freegunners roam the stars taking high-stakes jobs on worlds across Wild space, where they face other fiercely competitive Freegunner crews. From match-to-match, you’ll form your team of Freegunners with other players and battle it out with rival crews to take home the reward across a variety of maps and modes.
