Onikira takes the deep fighting mechanics of some of the most amazing 3D beat ‘em ups, like Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta, and merges them with classic 2D platformer mechanics in a way that has never been done before. For example, launch an enemy into the air, wall jump to position yourself above them, then Katana Slam them into the ground. Switch to the Naginata and use the Naginata Lift and air dash moves to stay in the air and off crumbling platforms, while pulling enemies up to you to be dispatched in mid-air. Whip out your grappling hook to grapple between platforms, across chasms or fiery pits, all the while fending off enemies. Every level is crammed full of environmental aids to help the player in combat encounters. Slice the support pillars off a building and watch it crush your enemies as it collapses, or use your moves to fling enemies into spikes, pits, or the path of moving deadly objects. Be careful though, as dropping a building on your own head is known to cause sadness!
Mickey's Playtown Adventure: A Day of Discovery, or Mickey's Playtown Adventure for short, is a 1994 video game published for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game stars Mickey Mouse as he goes on an adventure in Toontown to solve puzzles and riddles involving letters, numbers, shapes and objects. The game was cancelled before it could be released, despite being finished.
This is a platform game similar in style to Bubble Bobble and particularly to Parasol Stars. There are two playable characters, both of which are little girls. There is no difference between them gameplay-wise: both use a large blob-like animal to hit enemies from a short distance in a yo-yo-like fashion. It is possible to choose one of them as a single player, or to use them both cooperatively in the two-player mode.
Tom & Jerry 2 was a game that was being developed by Hi Tech. It appears different that the Genesis game, Frantic Antics. One can only speculate as to why it was canceled. It probably found the same fate as other Hi Tech games like Bobby's world, in which the market was too saturated for platformers based on cartoons.
Densetsu no Starfy for the Game Boy, and later for the Game Boy Color was a tentative Starfy title which was eventually canceled, though it was eventually released in the form of Densetsu no Starfy for the Game Boy Advance on September 6, 2002. Any initial plans of releasing Densetsu no Starfy for the Game Boy Color were abandoned in anticipation of the release of the Game Boy Advance.
A cancelled Kirby game for the Nintendo GameCube. It would be a 2D platformer with 3D graphics, and one of the features announced would be a 4 player co-op. Even though the game was never released, many of its features would later be used in new games in the series, like the graphic style in the Return to Dreamland and the co-op in Star Allies. This is the first of three different iterations of Kirby games that were cancelled around the same time. The other ones are an isometric-view platformer and a pop-up style 2D platformer.
The long-lost sequel to the original Shantae, is back in development after being put on the shelf for nearly two decades. Building off the original game code from the early 2000s, this once-canceled title will be completed and released physically on a Game Boy Advance-compatible game cartridge.
