Tecmo World Cup '98 is another installment in the Tecmo World Cup series.
Tecmo World Cup Super Soccer is quite different from the similarly-named Tecmo World Cup Soccer. In this football (soccer) game players can choose between competing for the World Cup or participating in the Japanese league tournament. Only eight international teams (Brazil, Argentine, Japan, England, France, Spain, Italy, and Germany) are available. Before a match begins players can choose between three general strategies for the team - normal, offensive, or defensive. Weather conditions (normal, rain, or snow) and match length can be selected as well. The game itself is played from a third-person perspective that slightly switches between isometric and top-down depending on the situation.

Tecmo World Cup '98 is another installment in the Tecmo World Cup series.
The main feature of the game is the World Cup tournament itself, where the player may use either the actual groups used in the finals, or groups composed of a random selection of the included teams. Each match takes place in a recreation of the venue it was played in the actual tournament. As in the real tournament, group games do not go to extra time or a penalty shootout but knockout matches do.

Exhibition mode is a quick play which lets 1 or 2 players start a quick match with selected teams. Tournament uses a typical tree structure and supports up to 16 teams, each of which can be set as player or CPU controller team. When two CPU teams play, only the result is displayed. Basic setup such as selecting stadiums, changing strategies, replacing players, setting time duration for a full match, and other options are all available. The game supports 1 or 2 player matches, with up to 4 players using multi-tap. It was later re-published under the SIMPLE 1500 series as "THE Soccer".
