The game is based on the hit TV quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire? PC and Console games players can now experience for themselves the excitement and tension of the TV show as they try and win one million virtual pounds. The UK version of the game features audio clips of the TV show's host Chris Tarrant, who will be asking the questions, giving the answers, and of course, uttering the famous line, "Is that your final answer?"; other localized versions have different hosts/voices, in addition to using questions suitable for each country.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: 3rd Edition is the third game based on the successful TV show. Not surprisingly the game itself is unchanged with the exception of new questions. The player takes the role of a candidate and has to answer 15 questions by choosing the correct answer out of four given possibilities.

Players try to answer 15 multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty, with the dollar value for each question increasing all the way up to one million dollars. If they player is stumped by a question, they may narrow their choices down by using up one of three lifelines - Ask the Audience, Double Dip, and Phone a Friend. Players can also choose to walk away and retain their winnings.
