Vertical sci-fi shoot ‘em up from the Hudson stable. Soldier Blade sticks to the tried and tested formula of Hudson’s previous games in the 'series', while throwing in some extra graphical effects. This time, the power up system involves collecting coloured pods - you can have three pods in stock at any one time, and the colour of the 'active' pod determines your weapon style. You also have the choice of ejecting a pod at any time, which results in a weapon-specific super attack.
In the year 2098 mankind had been critically attacked by a military force from Zeograd, a hostile planet in a far off galaxy. Commander Parker Deehan of Special Interception Airforce (SIA) decided to deploy and pilot the F98 Star Soldier fighter craft into the front line of battle against Zeograd. Losing the battle meant the extinction of mankind and the total annihilation of Earth!
Star Soldier is a 1986 vertically scrolling shooter video game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the Nintendo Entertainment System and MSX. It is the first game in the Star Soldier series. The player pilots the starship "Caesar", traveling through space stations occupied by powerful supercomputers known as "Starbrains" who threaten the galactic empire. Star Soldier greatly resembles the earlier arcade game Star Force. The MSX version of the game was brought to the SG-1000 in Taiwan.
In 2180, the Joint Forces of Earth come under attack from the mysterious Brain Forces. A cross-over game between the Star Soldier series by Hudson and the DoDonPachi series by Cave. The game combined a variety of elements between the two series such as ships and stages. The ships and stages available depended on whether you were subscribed to Hudson's Chaku☆Apu♪ service or Cave's Game Center Yokocho service. Users only registered on Hudson's Chaku☆Apu♪ service are able to play as Caesar in "Dodonpachi Daioujou Stage” and "Caravan Stage", and "Gokujo Shooting Arcade Yokocho". Users only registered on Cave's Game Center Yokocho service are only able to play as Type-A on the "Caravan Stage". Users with accounts on both services are able to use all ships and stages freely. The Caravan Stage features enemies and music from both series in the crossover.
Star Parodier is a vertical scrolling shooter, much like the Star Soldier games, and features many of the same conventions, such as collecting power-ups to upgrade the player's weapons, and facing several bosses and minibosses as they progress through the game. The game also features the 2 and 5 minute high score time attack modes seen in previous games. However, in parodying the hard sci-fi atmosphere of the Star Soldier games, Star Parodier takes a light hearted approach by featuring cute, cartoonish graphics and toning down the violence (for example, defeated enemies wave white flags in surrender). The players choose from one of three craft to play as in the game: the Paro Ceaser from Star Soldier, a giant flying Bomberman or an anthropomorphic PC Engine console that shoots HuCards and CD-ROMs at enemies. The game was originally only released in Japan, though it was also intended to be released in North America under the name Fantasy Star Soldier.
