Star Soldier is a budget remake of the classic top-down shooter which puts you behind the cockpit of a lone starfighter as you attempt to stop an alien invasion. This remake features a completely new polygonal engine with new stages, enemies and weapons. Additionally the game has been specifically redesigned for the PSP's 16:9 screen, meaning you have to turn the console on its side to play the game in a vertical orientation.

The game consists of 10 missions. Each mission takes place in a vast cavern, with interesting weather conditions. RayForce (released in western Arcades as "Gunlock") is a top-down shooter. In the game, the player pilots a starship called the Final Star, while shooting various enemies and destroying enemy structures for points. Unlike later vertical scrolling shooters, like Toaplan's Twin Cobra, the Final Star had only two levels of weapon power, and no secondary weapons like missiles and/or bombs. Akuu Senki Raijin (occasionally transliterated as Akara Senki Raijin) is a vertical shooter where the player controls a mecha that transforms into a starfighter. Star Soldier is a 1986 vertically scrolling shooter video game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the Nintendo Entertainment System and MSX. It is the first game in the Star Soldier series. The player pilots the starship "Caesar", traveling through space stations occupied by powerful supercomputers known as "Starbrains" who threaten the galactic empire. Star Soldier greatly resembles the earlier arcade game Star Force. The MSX version of the game was brought to the SG-1000 in Taiwan.
