Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland

20.03.2013
Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland adds new elements of land development to the RPG and simulation game system, providing additional depth and gameplay in this anime-style adventure. In addition, extra content and features are packed in including new costumes, new endings, and all the DLC from the PS3 version. One year after the events of Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland, the story begins in Arls Kingdom, a tiny nation in the far northwest of the Arland Republic. The quaint kingdom lacks the highly developed machinery and alchemy of the larger nation, but is nonetheless poised to join the Republic. However, many obstacles must first be overcome. To minimize criticism from opposition parties, Arls proposes a development project to increase its influence. To begin, a number of skilled adventurers are dispatched to Arls from Arland, including the alchemist Totori Helmold, the star of Atelier Totori. Meruru, Princess of Arls, maneuvers to become Totori’s apprentice with aspirations of becoming an alchemist in her own right. Meruru’s quest is to develop her kingdom before Arls becomes part of Arland. Enlisting the help of her friends, Meruru will synthesize, explore, build, and battle her way to making a bigger and better kingdom.
The third chapter in the Arland saga of alchemy role-playing games, Atelier Meruru follows Merurulince Rede Arls, the spirited young princess of Arls, a small kingdom tucked away in the far north of the Arland republic. As her father negotiates the merging of their little realm into the larger republic, Meruru meets the traveling alchemist Totori and is instantly captivated by the wondrous power of alchemy. Eager for adventure and determined to help her kingdom flourish, the headstrong princess insists on becoming Totori's very first pupil. Though her father is reluctant to see her abandon her royal duties, he agrees to let her pursue the craft on one condition: she must use her alchemy to develop and enrich the kingdom, meeting a series of goals within set spans of time or forfeiting her studies. And so, with mentor at her side, Meruru sets out to brew, gather, and explore, striving to transform her humble homeland through the art of alchemy.

Starting development in 2005 under the codename "Rapture", FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE was announced in 2009 for Windows and the PlayStation 3. It ran on Square Enix's Crystal Tools middleware engine, which was adjusted to suit the game's specifications. During development, the team carried over multiple aesthetic elements from FFXI while creating something that stood on its own. Due to several factors, the development was beset by problems that would later have drastic effects on the game. Attempts to bring the game to Xbox 360 consoles fell through due to disagreements with Microsoft about the use of Xbox Live. After its alpha test and a delayed beta test, the game went live on September 30, 2010, remaining active until its servers were closed on November 11, 2012. At launch, the game received a mixed to negative reaction: while the graphics and music met with general praise, other aspects were unanimously panned, including the gameplay, interface, and the general impression of the game being unfinished at launch. Critic and fan backlash caused Square Enix to pull subscription fees, indefinitely postpone the PlayStation 3 version, and eventually develop an entirely new version of the game called FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE: A REALM REBORN. The poor reception has had a serious impact on the FINAL FANTASY series, with both staff and company officials saying that the brand had been damaged.

Endless Online is a MMORPG which was popular in the early to mid 2000s. The game focused mainly on rudimentary PvE gameplay, with a heavy emphasis on socializing. Players would explore the isometric world, discovering new places, completing quests, and acquiring gear. There were many secrets and hidden places, making the world feel enticing to explore. The game also features a PvP Arena inside of the castle, in which players would queue into single-file lines to be transported to a free-for-all death match. There, 2-8 players would attempt to "tag" each other, timing attacks which would send opponents back to the line queue room. Sometimes players would organize tournaments in which the winners of arena battles would win prizes. The newest version has released (v29) in June of 2023 and is still active with hundreds of players

Oriental Blue is an RPG from the Far East of Eden series. It has a unique magic system and different pathways the story can take depending on in-game choices. The game continues the tradition of the series. You play as either Tenran or Aoi, a teenage boy and girl, respectively, on quest to defeat the ancient evil that threatens the prosperous land of Jipang, to prove themselves worthy of the legendary Fire Clan, warriors who have been protecting Jipang for many generations from evil demons and warlocks. The land Jipang is very similar to medieval Japan, and during your adventure you'll also visit Mongolia, China, and other Asian countries. The most important new feature of the game is a non-linear storyline. You can tackle many missions in any order you want, and the storyline also changes depending on the outcome of major battles. If you lose against a boss enemy, the game is not over, but instead, a branching storyline path is revealed. Otherwise, the gameplay is similar to other Far East of Eden games, featuring overworld map traveling and first person perspective, turn-based combat.
