Every Walking Simulator Pod has a limited shelf reserve of energy. While we anticipate that the reserves are capable of lasting well past the next cyclical Big Bang event, the nature projecting into the past (functionally the same as alternate realities) uses a random amount of power, and heavy users of Walking Simulators with often drain their pods completely, resuming normal energy transfer with their surroundings, a lethal prospect after universal heat death. A failsafe was set up, so that the last trip any pod will make will be to the shard, eons before the planet is harvested for walking simulator pods. The crystalline structures in the planet are capable of absorbing what we normally call a soul, and with any luck we will be able to rematerialize from data stored in the pods after they are doing being used as vessels.
