The best 3D shooter game of the 80's. Drive the Silpheed fighter jet and crush the ambitions of the Xacalite who have sacked Gloire. "SILPHEED" is a vertical scrolling 3D shooter game released by Gamearts in 1986. The player boards the air fighter SA-08 Silpheed and sets out to crush the insurgency. The game consists of a total of 20 areas, including outer space, inside the base, and above the planet, and players advance while destroying enemies who fly in one after another. Silpheed can be powered up by collecting items placed in each area, and weapons are added according to the score. At the end of each area, players will be confronted by large enemies with unique attack methods, such as attacking with ring lasers or reflecting our lasers.

In the distant future, a plague of parasitic monsters is sweeping across the known universe; devouring all the resources in its path -- including the distant outposts humanity calls home. The only chance for mankind's survival is a top-secret starship class known as Silpheed and the hyper-skilled pilots at the controls. And so begins the premise of Silpheed: The Lost Planet, a co-development shooting project between Game Arts and Treasure that remakes the early '90s PC shooter of the same name. Features include a large variety of enemy types, multiple weapon upgrades, and polygonal graphics. As an added bonus, Working Designs has removed the slowdown and added analog control for the American version of the game.

In Silpheed, the player pilots a spaceship through levels of increasing difficulty, in a pseudo-3D vertically scrolling field, shooting everything in his path. New weapons will become available as he gathers points, and power-ups are sprinkled throughout the levels. The game is one of the first-ever that used music as a selling point.

Can anyone build an empire in a place like this? Other factions are naturally suspicious of newcomers and may wage war at the first sign of unidentified craft. Here, a natural death is an uncommon luxury.
