It is a video game that is played along with toy figures that interact with it through a "Portal of Power", that reads their tag through NFC and features the voices of Josh Keaton, Dave Wittenberg, Darin De Paul, Joey Camen, Audrey Wasilewski, Keythe Farley and Kevin Michael Richardson.

In Skylanders Trap Team, Kaos continues his ongoing quest to rule over Skylands. Don't Knock Twice is a single-player first-person survival horror game with support for virtual reality headsets. Combat is fast and built around a light attack, a heavy attack, a dodge, and a jump, with additional special abilities and the aid of a companion character. The mystery is unravelled by replaying events and joining forces with different allies rather than by sifting through evidence directly. It is set in the same world as Stories: The Path of Destinies, of which it is the successor.
