You're a one-of-a-kind dangerous guy named Dave. Born and raised in the hill country of Backwater, USA, you're quite deft with the shotgun, and afraid of nothing. Then again, you haven't been in the haunted mansion up on the hill. As you hunt for your lost little brother, Delbert, you must enter a house full of zombies, spooks, and bad guys and turn them into hamburger meat, before they make a meal out of you in Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion!
Shadow of the Beast is a platform game developed by Reflections and published by Psygnosis in 1989. The original version was released for the Amiga and later ported to many other systems. The game was known for its graphics, with many colours on screen and up to twelve levels of parallax scrolling backdrops, and its atmospheric score composed by David Whittaker, which used high-quality instrument samples.
Johnny Dash's bash 'em smash 'em adventure takes him into the evil Under World of Count Chuck. The story starts when Johnny's dog Tex is kidnapped by the Count, along with hundreds of other pet dogs and cats. The friendly bed monster under Johnny's bed tells Johnny where Tex was taken, and how Johnny can use his secret closet passageway to get to the Under World himself. Count Chuck plans to turn all the pets into an army of undead monsters, so Johnny grabs his slingshot and leaps into his closet. The Count will not turn his dog Tex into a monster, not if he can stop him!
Avenging Spirit, known in Japan as Phantasm, is a 1991 2-player platform arcade game developed by C.P. Brain and published by Jaleco. Players attack (or possess) enemies, collect power-ups, and defeat bosses to advance. Players can possess one of four characters with unique abilities at the start of the game, but the library of enemies expands and changes with each level.
A truly bizarre game which was rather popular at the time. It's an action game of sorts, in which you play Beetlejuice himself and you have to kill (?) all kinds of skeletons with weapons -- you start with the ability to shoot a single loogie at the skeletons and, by collecting bonuses from destroyed skeletons, you may get additional loogies per shot or completely different weapons. Also, after you hit a skeleton, your friend Lidia has to collect the skeleton's remains with a vacuum cleaner; however, if a skeleton find Lidia she becomes imprisoned in a cage and you have to release her by hitting another skeleton and taking a "lightning bonus" from his remains. Another nice touch is the worm, which comes out of the playground every now and then and, should it hit you, kills you.
After a lab accident, a scientist awakens in a mysterious, alien world. Is this a distant planet? The far future? Or a complex virtual-reality computer simulation? Plumb the recesses of a large, labyrinthine world in order to learn its secrets and uncover your role within it. Discover tons of weapons, items, and abilities, each with their own unique behaviors and usage. You’ll need your wits to find them all. Combat bizarre biomechanoid constructs, the deadly fallout of an ancient war, and the demons of your own psyche. And finally, break the game itself by using glitches to corrupt foes and solve puzzles in the environment. Life. Afterlife. Real. Virtual. Dream. Nightmare. It's a thin line. It's Axiom Verge.
