Duke Nukem 3D is a first-person shooter in which players move through levels from the protagonist's viewpoint, fighting aliens and mutated foes with a varied arsenal. In 2010, the Advanced Ideas Corporation (AI Corp) has discovered the remains of a crashed alien ship. The technological ability of this race (and the race itself) were far superior to what the Humans had. A few days after this discovery, the mothership of the alien race began to attack Earth, without provocation. The aliens quickly subdued the superpowers of the Earth and held them down under their mighty technological power. Earth geneticists studied the remains of the aliens retrived from the crashed ship discovered that the invaders were all cybernetically-enhanced creatures and that under such conditions there was no way that Earth could retaliate sufficiently to destroy these organisms. So, the AI Corp brought forth the Enhanced Combat Scouts (ECS) project. They developed a prototype and gave it the code name "Havoc". Havoc's mission is to disrupt and destroy the communication lines between the alien forces and their commander. He is Earth's last hope.

Shadow Ops: Red Mercury is an action-oriented first person shooter based on modern military weapons, equipment and tactics, although presented as a "blockbuster action movie" rather than a hardcore realistic military simulation. Players proceed through linear levels while battling terrorists and hostile enemy soldiers in locations spanning all around the globe, such as Syria and France, using an assortment of modern firearms.

Take No Prisoners is a 1997 game set in a post-apocalyptic Texas; with the main character, Slade, given the mission to retrieve an object from the center of a small town. Slade, having to battle past the cities violent inhabitants, manages to retrive the object and escape the city alive.

Star Wars: Battlefront II is the sequel to Star Wars: Battlefront. It is a high-selling Star Wars video game following the many adventures of several characters. The two games are very similar, as both revolve around troopers from various factions fighting in different locales. Battlefront II, however, includes elements and missions from Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, as well as enhanced aspects of gameplay including space combat and the ability to play as Jedi characters or other heroes. Outcast is a 3D third-person (with an optional first-person view) action game with adventure elements. In search of five sacred relics, the protagonist travels through the five continents of Adelpha (plus one tutorial island). Each land has its own landscape (mountains, lakes, forests), populated areas, as well as dozens of minor problems - small quests that the hero is required to solve. Most Talans populating the world can be conversed with about a variety of topics. A large portion of the game consists of finding key characters and performing quests for them; some of these are optional, though most must be completed in an adventure-like linear fashion in order to advance the plot. Cutter is free to travel between the continents using special portals. Apart from exploration and completing quests, Cutter will also fight many guards and creatures. At his disposal are six futuristic weapons (railgun and others); ammunition for those guns is scattered around and can also be produced by mixing items. Aiming help is provided in the form of laser sights. Sneaking up to the enemy and punching him out silently is also possible. Gadgets such as a holo-decoy can be used to help Cutter gain the upper hand in combat. The player character can also jump, climb, swim, dive, crawl, and ride a local animal known as Twon-Ha for faster travel.

In this installment of the Serious Sam series, Sam takes on a new arch-nemesis "Mini Sam", an evil clone of the hero Sam "Serious" Stone. Mini Sam has taken control of the timelock and is going through time wiping out ancient civilizations - and it is up to Serious Sam to put a stop to him. The game takes the player through over 40 levels in three historic locations; Ancient Rome, Feudal China and Legendary Atlantis. The PS2 version includes online multiplayer support for up to 8 players via the broadband adapter and two players on one PS2, while the GC version allows 4 players to battle it out on one GameCube. Competitive multiplayer modes include Deathmatch, Hold the Flag and Pass the Bomb. The entire single player campaign can be played through co-operatively, allowing two players to help each other take on the vicious armies of Mental and Mini-Sam.
