God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is a free DLC that introduces a new mode that uses elements of the roguelite genre. Players progress through a series of trials set in procedurally generated levels, where they must choose a relic, shield, and rage ability for each trial run. After completing a challenge within a trial, players can opt for upgrading their weapon, relic, or stats, but these enhancements only apply to that specific trial run. Each run and the completion of specific gameplay challenges unlock permanent rewards. If a player dies, they restart the trial from the beginning. The downloadable content (DLC) also introduces new enemies, including new and familiar ones from the Greek era games like cyclopes and minotaurs.

An epic adventure across four great mythologies - Aztec, Egyptian, Greek and Norse - allowing the player to live through many of the key episodes that mark these cultures (the siege of Troy, Ragnarok, ......) and setting him in the path of the most prominent figures within each episode (Achilles, Thor, Akhenaton...). Choose from four different heroes with radically different attributes and powers. Each hero has a vast array of spells and skills to help him through his quest. Innumerable story lines through random generation of decors and items, so that nobody lives the same experience and allowing the game to be played many times without the hero ever having the same set of weapons, armour or spells.

Betrayal is the only installment in the series to be released on a non-PlayStation platform and presented as a 2D side-scrolling game. Despite the limitations of the mobile platform, in comparison to its home console counterparts, it retains the action-oriented approach of its predecessors, with the same combination of combo-based combat, platforming, and puzzle game elements. Although God of War is primarily a home console series, Betrayal was praised for its fidelity to the series in terms of gameplay, art style, and graphics: "the real deal third game in the killer franchise". It received awards for "Wireless Game of the Month" (June 2007) and "Best Platform Game" (wireless) of 2007.
