Lock-on: Flaming Cliffs 2 is an expansion and an evolution of Lock-on: Flaming Cliffs which was by itself an unofficial add-on to Lock On: Modern Air Combat. It is applied either to the base game or on top of the original Flaming Cliffs. It contains the content of the original add-on as well as updates to aircraft, sensor, and weapon systems. This add-on allows users of Lock On: Modern Air Combat and DCS: Black Shark to fly together in online multiplayer games, either head-to-head or working cooperatively in missions. Overall this add-on offers improvements to the terrain, mission editor, AI flight models, 3D objects, artificial intelligence (AI), and multiplayer. The included aircraft are: Su-25 (new 3D model), Su-25T, A-10A, Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29A, MiG-29C, F-15C. It also includes several new missions and campaigns.

Lock On: Modern Air Combat is considered as a survey simulator by its creators. It contains 8 flyable aircraft and over 40 non-playable/AI-controlled planes. The game mainly revolves around air-to-air combat and air-to-ground combat with some optional, unique roles such as pinpoint/anti-radiation strikes, anti-ship strikes or aerobatics.
