A bright light shot up from Darm Tower in the end of the first Ys, and Adol Christin is awakened by a young girl who finds him lying on the ground. She introduces herself as Lilia and tells Adol he is in the land of Ys. Finally he was able to establish a connection between his world and this mysterious land! But finding the gateway to Ys is not enough: Adol must stop an evil entity that his archenemy Dark Fact served. And his foes already know where he is. Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished - The Final Chapter is a direct sequel to Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished - Omen. The game continues to utilize the action role-playing combat style of the first installment, which requires the player to make the protagonist run into the enemy in order to cause damage, without the need to press an attack button. The player should choose the angles and the measure of contact with the enemy carefully, otherwise the hero will be killed. The player character can (and should) level up, perform quests for village people, gather money, and upgrade weapons and inventory, like in most other RPGs. The sequel offers a longer quest than the first installment, and adds a magic arsenal to Adol's abilities. Among the magic spells is a fire attack, a time-stopping spell, and a transformation ability that allows Adol to pass for a monster and converse with enemies. Magic spells deplete Adol's magic points bar.

An enemy should be rammed from the sides in order to hurt him. If performed incorrectly, the player will get hurt himself. It's also possible to use magic and position oneself strategically in battle so that the enemy won't be able to inflict any damage.

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim is an action role-playing game in which adventurer Adol Christin is shipwrecked on the Canaan Islands after the Romun fleet attacks his expedition. Rescued by members of the native Rehda tribe, he explores the archipelago and investigates the forces threatening its inhabitants. Combat takes place in real time and centers on three elemental swords, each providing distinct attacks and magical abilities. Players explore interconnected areas, collect equipment and items, and battle regular enemies and large bosses.

The kingdom of Altago is rebuilding their kingdom around a newfound peace after years of war against the merciless armies of Romn. Ys Seven is the latest installment in the long-running Ys series which first debuted on PC in 1987. This is the first iteration to be built specifically for the PSP system, taking full advantage of the widescreen format and hardware. The battle system consists of a three-member battle party with enemies engaged on the field map in real-time for fast-paced combat. Ys V: Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin is an action-RPG and the fifth mainline entry in the Ys series. The player controls Adol as he explores a desert and investigates the disappearance of an ancient city. Combat involves timed sword attacks, shield defense, and jumping. Magic is cast through a charging system that consumes elemental stones. The game features overhead exploration and dungeon progression as the player uncovers the mystery of Kefin.

Tales of Eternia is an action japanese role playing game, with real time battle scenes (combos and spells can be assigned to the face buttons). The game is set in the fantasy world of Inferia, follows the story of a young hunter named Reid Hershel and his friends, Farah and Keele, as they meet a mysterious girl who speaks an unknown language. Their subsequent quest to discover her origins leads them across a dimensional boundary to an entirely different realm known as Celestia, where they become involved in an age-old conflict between the two worlds. It would later inspire a 13-episode anime co-produced by Production I.G loosely based on the game's plot.
