Gameplay consists of completing successive missions and overall cockpit performance affects gameplay: going above and beyond the call of duty results in medals, promotions in rank are awarded at regular intervals, and success or failure on certain critical missions decides the player's plot progress, "winning" or "losing".

Wing Commander Saga: The Darkest Dawn concludes a forty-year galactic struggle between the Terran Confederation and the Kilrathi Empire, an imperialistic, xenophopic alien race. Standoff is a fan-made add-on to Origin's Wing Commander Secret Ops, the latest PC Game in the Wing Commander franchise. Standoff will work with either the freely-downloadable Secret Ops Starter Package or with the full version of Secret Ops that is included in the Wing Commander Prophecy Gold edition. Standoff was originally released in five separate episodes, from December 2004 to August 2009, matching the subdivisions of the game's storyline. As of now, the full game can be installed and played from start to finish by downloading a single file.

Released free via the Internet, Wing Commander: Secret Ops was structured differently than the previous Wing Commander games. Instead of a standalone games, Secret Ops missions were released episodically via the Internet for free download. Step into the shoes of Magnus Tide, a young fighter pilot who must defend his home and way of life from enemies.
