After arriving in Salburg, the game's main protagonist Lilie hopes to build an alchemy academy in the Kingdom. Alchemy is severely under developed in comparison to the Kingdom of El Baldor, which is home to many talented alchemists. Because Salburg has never seen the likes of alchemy, Lilie must prove to King Schigsal that the Kingdom would benefit from alchemy. Working through a small workshop in town, Lilie will enlist the help of two bright alchemy students from El Bador, Hermina and Ingrid, to help her work. Lilie's main goal is to gather any aide that she can so that the academy can be built.

The remake changes include: Character designs and event illustrations have been revamped, 2D animations have added and there are now 3D models of characters and stages. The tutorial and navigation of the game’s features have been expanded and improved. The methods of moving around the city and collecting items in the field has been modified to meet modern-day demands, making it more comfortable and easier to play. The new Unlimited Mode, which allows you to play at a more relaxed pace by removing the five year deadline, and the addition of new events that enable interactions with new characters.

Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland is a Japanese role-playing video game developed by Gust. It takes the series alchemy driven gameplay and expands it towards encouraging exploration and discovery. Atelier Totori is the twelfth installment in the Atelier series, and it continues the series' emphasis on item synthesis. The next game in the Atelier franchise and the start of a new series of games. The collection system has been redesigned, the items found are the same but different tools or actions will be required to find them at collection points. The crafting system has been updated and a new item making system has been added, to be revealed at a later date. The turn-based combat is getting changed in some fashion to make it more tense, also to be revealed later.
