The collection system has been redesigned, the items found are the same but different tools or actions will be required to find them at collection points. The crafting system has been updated and a new item making system has been added, to be revealed at a later date. The turn-based combat is getting changed in some fashion to make it more tense, also to be revealed later.

Battles are based on the idea that the princess, Meruru, is the leader and those accompanying her are considered "escorts." Meruru can use items in battle and depending on the conditions in battle, her escorts can chain attacks and the power of the items can be increased.

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is the second installment of the Valkyrie Profile series. Taking place hundreds of years before the original game, the story revolves around two characters living the same body, named Silmeria and Alicia. Together, the two characters work to stop a catastrophe that could cause war between the people and the gods. The game received generally positive reviews, citing its similarity to the original Valkyrie Profile game and its beautiful graphics, but had a convoluted interface and a high degree of difficulty. The game went on to be re-released as a Square Enix "Ultimate Release".
