Tribulation of Heaven and Earth
Castle: The Forbidden Divines is a story-driven role-playing game and a narrative prequel to Kalpa: The Sign of Omen. The game follows Xiahou Yi, a mysterious sorcerer who appeared in the earlier-released game. Set largely in the Western Regions, the story explores his relationship with Bingli and the events that determine their later destinies. Gameplay combines exploration, environmental puzzles, character development, equipment management, magic and semi-turn-based role-playing battles.
In July 1999, a strategy role-playing game developed by Dynasty International Information and published by Soft-World Technology was released along with the well-known computer magazine "Software and CD" in mainland China. This game is called "Kalpa: The Sign of Omen". Due to its low price of 25 yuan for the full version, it attracted a large number of players. Most people were initially scared off by its difficulty, making the most common screen seen at the beginning "defeat." Then, there were a lot of game-breaking bugs, causing many players to have to start over. There was even a rumor online that the game company was treating players as free testers. As a result, the magazine "Software and CD" had to include a patch in its August issue to appease the players' anger. In September 1999, the "enhanced version" of "Kalpa: The Sign of Omen" was released at a price of 69 yuan. In addition to a big box packaging, the game also came with a full-color manual and a fan comic. The game version was also upgraded to 1.1. This version looked like a deluxe edition, and many players who owned the standard edition were not interested in it. However, this version contained a big secret, which was the perfect ending of the game. The relevant levels were not included in the standard version.

Baldur's Gate is a fantasy role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published in 1998 by Interplay Entertainment. It is the first game in the Baldur's Gate series and takes place in the Forgotten Realms, a high fantasy campaign setting, using a modified version of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D) 2nd edition rules. It was the first game to use the Infinity Engine for its graphics, with Interplay using the engine for other Forgotten Realms-licensed games, including the Icewind Dale series, as well as other licensed D&D campaign worlds such as Planescape: Torment. The game's story focuses on players controlling a protagonist of their own creation who finds themselves travelling across the Sword Coast alongside a party of companions, to unravel the mystery surrounding a sudden iron crisis affecting the region and attempting to discover the culprits behind it, all while uncovering dark secrets about their origins and dealing with attempts on their life.
Starting development in 2005 under the codename "Rapture", FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE was announced in 2009 for Windows and the PlayStation 3. It ran on Square Enix's Crystal Tools middleware engine, which was adjusted to suit the game's specifications. During development, the team carried over multiple aesthetic elements from FFXI while creating something that stood on its own. Due to several factors, the development was beset by problems that would later have drastic effects on the game. Attempts to bring the game to Xbox 360 consoles fell through due to disagreements with Microsoft about the use of Xbox Live. After its alpha test and a delayed beta test, the game went live on September 30, 2010, remaining active until its servers were closed on November 11, 2012. At launch, the game received a mixed to negative reaction: while the graphics and music met with general praise, other aspects were unanimously panned, including the gameplay, interface, and the general impression of the game being unfinished at launch. Critic and fan backlash caused Square Enix to pull subscription fees, indefinitely postpone the PlayStation 3 version, and eventually develop an entirely new version of the game called FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE: A REALM REBORN. The poor reception has had a serious impact on the FINAL FANTASY series, with both staff and company officials saying that the brand had been damaged.
