Kirby no Omochabako: Hoshi Kuzushi

08.03.1996
Genre: Arcade
This is a breakout-style game where Kirby is the ball. The bat is a trampoline held by two Rick-like hamsters. The game uses a star-counter, which decreases periodically on its own. Hitting any one block will dislodge several stars which fall down from where the block was - catching one will increment the player's star counter by 5. If Kirby (the ball) hits the ground when the star counter is higher than zero, he will bounce once, so the player gets one more chance to catch him. Otherwise, the player loses a life. Every time Kirby touches the ground, the star counter is reduced by 10. Once the player clears the first five stages, King Dedede appears in stage 6. This stage has no blocks, so the player's star counter cannot increase. Dedede throws hammers from time to time - if Rick is hit, the player will not be able to control him for a short while. Hitting Dedede enough times will defeat him. Like every other sub-game in Kirby's Toy Box, this game could only be downloaded by the Satellaview during the brief period it was broadcast.

Color TV-Game Block Kuzushi is a Color TV Game title released in 1979 only in Japan. The first home console game to be created exclusively by Nintendo (the other Color TV Games were created with the assistance of Mitsubishi), Block Kuzushi is also known as being designed by legendary game developer Shigeru Miyamoto. Block Kuzushi is basically a home console version of Breakout. Block Kuzushi sold over 400,000 units in Japan, quite the success for Nintendo. Several things made Color TV-Game Block Kuzushi slightly unique when compared to other block-breaking games at the time. The player could choose from several different options, such as the number of balls present during a game and the speed of the ball/balls. Different game modes were present, such as Block Lighter, in which the player must destroy blinking blocks, and Block Through, which would have the ball eliminating every block in its way up to the top (without destroying a block and heading downwards). In department stores, managers would hold Block Kuzushi competitions with the winner obtaining a special medal to confirm their expertise in the game.

This fighting game began the story of the Sakazaki family and Robert Garcia. Yuri Sakazaki has been abducted by Mr. Big to punish her father, Takuma, and her brother, Ryo. To rescue her, Ryo and Robert must take on numerous enemies around South Town, eventually reaching the mysterious Mr. Karate. The passion of the game’s creators is evident in the unique game play elements introduced. These include an energy gauge that is depleted every time a fighter uses a special maneuver, Desperation Attacks that are usable only when a fighter’s health is low, and camera zooming that adjusts on the fly as fighters move around the stage. All these features ensure that players use strategy and tactics, rather than simply mash buttons. Adding to the mix are little touches such as characters showing cuts when they are injured and voice-over samples during cut scenes. Can you perfect the art of fighting and save Yuri?

In Europe, the game was released for the MS-DOS, Amiga and Atari ST, retitled as Dyna Blaster due to the European mainstream media associating the original title with terrorist bombings. A Commodore 64 version was advertised as well but never released.
